Is Play Therapy suitable for my child?
Play Therapy is a gentle, child-centered therapy designed for young children (3-12 years). Play Therapy allows children to express their feelings and experiences through the medium of play, without the need for words.
Play Therapy supports children who are experiencing a range of issues including anxiety, selective mutism, grief and loss, trauma, adoption, issues arising from neurodiverse diagnoses, and behavioural and emotional issues.
Can I claim a rebate through Medicare?
Cathy is registered with Medicare for Play Therapy services. You can discuss your child’s eligibility for a Medicare rebate with your GP. A Medicare rebate will typically require a Mental Health Plan from your GP.
Medicare rebate is $85. per session for the first ten sessions.
Can I claim through my private health insurance?
Cathy is registered with the major private health funds. You will need to discuss your eligibility and rebate amount with your insurer.

Can I sit in on the sessions with my child?
Play Therapy is a one on one service for your child and the therapist. Occasionally a parent can enter the room depending on the child’s need.
Can you do the therapy sessions in our home?
Play Therapy is provided in the safe and secure environment of the play room at our practice in North Sydney. The play room provides the most therapeutic toys to help your child understand and heal their emotional concerns.
What results can I expect to see?
A child’s response to play therapy will vary. Play therapy allows children to release their emotions and concerns, so they may become more emotional at home for a couple of weeks. As play therapy continues the child will be able to heal and become less emotional and more self-regulated.
When can I talk to my therapist about my child?
During the scheduled consultations and reviews with your therapist you can discuss any concerns you have about your child. You can also email or call your therapist to discuss your concerns. It is important that discussions about your child occur without your child being present.

- One on one therapy sessions over a 12-week period (minimum) with each therapy session lasting 40 minutes
- A more condensed 12 session programme if required.
- Additional therapy sessions beyond 12 depending upon the child’s needs
Our typical fee schedule is a follows
- Initial 60-120-minute consultation with parents/ carers - $340.
- 40-minute therapy session with child - $150 (minimum of 12 sessions and an average of 18-24 sessions)
- 30-minute parent review (after every 6 sessions)-$170
- a cancellation fee (the cost of the session) will be applied for cancellations within 24 hours of the session
